Benefits of Wool

  • WOOL IS RESILIENT
  • X

    Wool is Resilient

Unlike any other fibre, wool has a natural crimp and after footfall, bounces back to its original shape. It is resistant to flattening and any effects of tracking and shading are reduced, thus maintaining an excellent surface appearance over several years.

  • WOOL IS EASY TO CLEAN
  • X

    Wool is easy to clean

Wool has an extra protective membrane of microscopic scales which repels water and locks out liquids longer, providing ample time to mop up spillages. Prompt attention to household spillages with clean white paper towels or cloth will address many such problems.

  • WOOL IS NATURALLY FIRE RESISTANT
  • X

    Wool is naturally fire resistant

Drop a lighted match onto a wool carpet and it will smoulder and self extinguish within seconds as there is insufficient oxygen to support a fire. Wool is a much favoured firesafe fibre in hotels and other commercial locations for this very reason.

  • WOOL BREATHES
  • X

    Wool breathes

Wool is a 'smart' fibre and has an amazing ability to breath regulating the atmosphere in the home. It also acts as a filter by absorbing many harmful airborne compounds including dust, binding them into the fibre away from the air we breathe.

  • WOOL IS SUSTAINABLE AND BIODEGRADABLE
  • X

    Wool is sustainable and biodegradable

Wool is a gift of nature! Sheep are necessarily sheared annually providing this wonderful and sustainable resource. It is also biodegradable in soil and provides an abundance of plant nutrients

  • WOOL IS COMFORTABLE
  • X

    Wool is comfortable

Soft underfoot and adding comfort, warmth and sound insulation to the home, wool acts as an insulator improving heat retention and energy efficiency.

Benefits of Polyester

Causeway have recently launched carpets consisting of a 100% polyester pile. There are sound reasons for this decision. Polyester fibre which was a British invention is one of the most eco friendly of man made fibres. It has a natural and high level of stain resistance and consumes less energy to produce than other man made fibres.

It is hydrophobic so does not absorb water, has a vibrant and lustrous appearance providing the opportunity for the most superb colour palettes. Causeway polyester ranges have a simply luxuriously soft touch handle, are durable and resist wear. Polyester is easily recycled and its competitive price make it a natural and popular choice for carpets.

Spirit of Chartwell is famously recognised as the Royal Barge in which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Price Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh rode along the River Thames in a flotilla of over 1000 vessels to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee. The boat is now owned by Douro Azul and has been luxuriously refurbished to carry passengers oncruises along the River Douro, heart of Portugal's internationally famous port wine region. As befitting a boat of such fame and style, Causeway's parent Lusotufo were selected to fully carpet all appropriate areas of the boat.

When it comes to carpets making the right decision can be difficult. Over the years we have received many questions from clients about our range of carpets. In this blog we are going to be looking at the top 3 frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Causeway carpets guaranteed?

Each Causeway carpet is accompanied by a WEAR GUARANTEE, which varies according to the quality concerned. This specifies that subject to the carpet being installed in a suitable location by a professional installer and subject to adequate maintenance it will not wear out within the specified period of the guarantee. In cases of a claim, an independent and experienced inspector will be appointed to examine the carpet and report accordingly. Subject to his confirmation of a genuine wear complaint, a replacement will be issued. Any such complaint must be directed to the retailer from which the carpet was purchased.

Can you provide a colour match between 2 pieces of carpet?

Yes providing they are both from the same dye batch. This should be requested from your retailer at the time of purchase and must be clearly specified in writing at the time of order.

How should I measure the quantity of carpet I require?

We strongly recommend that this be left in the hands of the retailer with which you wish to place the order. Incorrect measurements not least when considering a hall, stairs and landing could prove costly and should be carried out by an experienced installer.

Are Causeway carpets mothproofed?

All Causeway wool carpets are mothproofed during the course of manufacture. Additionally we strongly recommend rigorous vacuuming with a quality machine, including under furniture and along skirting boards. Moths feed on Keratin which is a protein found in wool. Mothproofing makes the protein indigestible as a result of which moths will starve. Rigorous vacuuming removes moths and their eggs.

What is a tog rating?

This relates to the weight of the carpet and the insulation it provides, thus the higher the rating, the greater the insulation. Tog ratings vary from 0 to 5. All Causeway Carpets have a tog rating which are available on this website.

Can I have underfloor heating if I have a carpet?

The simple answer is yes. However the benefits will not be as beneficial if your carpet has a high tog rating. Generally speaking and for underfloor heating to be effective, a combined tog rating between the underlay and the carpet should be no more than 2.5. A discussion with your heating provider and retailer is worthwhile.

How should I care for my carpet after installation?

All carpets regardless of type are subject to soiling to a greater or lesser extent. Regular and thorough vacuuming is essential and an economical way to protect your investment, to prolong the life of your carpet and to maintain its appearance. For cut pile carpets such as twist and velvet piles, a beater bar/ brush head vacuum with a strong suction is most effective in removing surface dirt and opening the pile to remove loosely embedded soil. For carpets of a loop pile construction we recommend only vacuum suction. Periodically we recommend your carpet be professionally cleaned by a reputable carpet cleaning company. In the early stages of their life, you might find that wool carpets shed loose fibres during the cleaning process. This is normal and not a manufacturing fault.

How should I remove spots and stains from wool carpets?

Speed is of the essence! Blot up liquids with a white paper towel or absorbent cloth. Scoop up solids carefully with the end of a knife or spoon. Treat the spot with a stain removal agent which is suitable for wool fibre, recommended for carpets and leaves no sticky residue. Work from the outer edge of the stain towards the centre as this will prevent spreading. The cloth should be replaced as soon as it becomes soiled. Never rub the carpet in a circular motion as this will distort the pile surface. Carefully rinse the area with clear water and sponge when cleaned. Do not soak the carpet pile and blot as dry as possible with a clean towel. DO NOT use household cleaners such as soap, ammonia, turpentine, benzine or any other spot removal agent that is not specifically recommended for use on carpets.
